The yak is an animal that lives on the Tibetan plateaus of the Pamir and on the Himalayan slopes beyond 3 thousand metres and resists the harsh winters even up to 6 thousand metres above sea level in search of food.

It has a thick coat formed from a long dark fleece that reaches almost down to the ground and which acts as temperature thermo-regulator. The domestic type bears the colouring of the variable coat.
