The yak is a big ox of Tibet who lives in northern and mountainous regions of China, survives at very low temperatures and considerable altitudes, between 4000 and 6000 meters. Walk only on two nails, shoulder, is high between 150 and 200 cm and weighs between 300 kg females, males up to 800 kg. The horns are directed upward and backward, in females about 50 cm long and 80 cm in males. The gestation period lasts between 250 and 300 days.
He has thick, warm coat, essential to survive the freezing temperatures of the high altitude Tibetan, because temperature acts as a thermoregulator.
The fur is made up of long and thick hair and a thick, soft duvet underneath, the color varies from black to dark brown, with lighter shades sometimes whitish near the muzzle. Yaks live at high altitudes develop a very thick long fur that often touches the ground.
The collection of the fiber is obtained by combing the fleece losing muted annual practicing in respect for animals and nature. In the Spring, when the hair is thick and strong, combing the belly and the underside of the animal, from which we obtain about 100 grams of hair. The material is stored in large bags, sold and entered into the production cycle where it will become a textile fiber.
We proceed to the sorting, the fibers by hand to remove coarse and rank them for fineness and color, a slow and patient work performed by qualified personnel. The fiber is beaten to remove the parts earthy and washed.
Then, is performed the action which consists in separating the fine and soft undercoat from the big hair that form the outer coat of the animal.
Now the fiber is ready to be processed and, after a long and careful process, become soft and warm blankets.
